In the 1950s, fishermen came to the shallow waters of the sandbar to clean their daily catch. Stingrays became accustomed to getting a daily snack from the scraps that were thrown overboard. More and more stingrays began to aggregate in the shallow waters. Today, visitors include people who wish to interact with the more than 100 individual stingrays that regularly visit the sandbar.
